Community Guidelines

How we keep the Glitch community welcoming for everyone.

The Glitch community is built by people who love retro games and the technology that brings them back to life. These guidelines exist to make sure everyone — from first-time users to seasoned contributors — feels safe, respected, and heard. By participating in any Glitch community space, you agree to follow these principles.

Be Respectful

Treat every community member with dignity and kindness. Disagreements are natural, but personal attacks, insults, harassment, intimidation, and hate speech are never acceptable. This includes discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, nationality, or any other personal characteristic.

Remember there's a real person behind every username. Assume good intentions, give people the benefit of the doubt, and respond with patience — especially when someone is frustrated or confused. A welcoming attitude is what makes this community special.

Stay On Topic

Keep discussions relevant to gaming, Glitch, retro technology, and related topics. Our community spaces are for sharing knowledge, solving problems, and celebrating the hobby we all enjoy. Off-topic conversations, spam, self-promotion, and unsolicited advertising dilute the experience for everyone.

If you're unsure whether something belongs, check the channel or forum category descriptions, or ask a moderator. We'd rather you ask than stay silent.

No Piracy

Glitch is a platform for playing games you legally own. Do not share, request, or link to copyrighted ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files, or any pirated content in any Glitch community space. Do not link to piracy websites, ROM download sites, or tools designed to circumvent copy protection.

Discussion of homebrew games, fan translations applied to your own dumps, and legally obtained public domain software is welcome and encouraged. If you're unsure whether something crosses the line, err on the side of caution. Piracy-related posts will be removed immediately, and repeat offenders will be banned.

Help Each Other

One of the best things about the Glitch community is how generous people are with their knowledge. If you know the answer to someone's question, take a moment to help. If you've solved a tricky configuration problem, write it up so others can benefit. Share your configs, your scripts, your tips.

Be patient with newcomers. Everyone was new once. A question that seems obvious to you might be genuinely confusing for someone setting up their first self-hosted server. Meet people where they are, and help them level up.

Report Problems

If you see behavior that violates these guidelines, please use the built-in reporting tools on the platform where it occurs (Discord report, GitHub flag, or forum report button). Provide as much context as possible so moderators can act quickly and fairly.

Please do not publicly call out or shame other users. Public confrontation rarely resolves problems and often escalates them. Let the moderation team handle it — that's what we're here for. Reports are reviewed confidentially, and we take every one seriously.

️ Consequences

We believe in proportional, fair enforcement. Our moderation process follows a clear escalation path:

First offense: A friendly warning from a moderator, explaining what guideline was violated and how to avoid it in the future. Most issues are resolved here — people are generally good-natured and responsive.

Repeated violations: A temporary mute or ban (typically 24–72 hours), giving everyone time to cool down and reflect. The length depends on severity and pattern.

Serious or persistent offenses: A permanent ban from the community. This is reserved for harassment, hate speech, doxxing, piracy distribution, and cases where someone has shown a clear pattern of disregard for the community.

We don't enjoy banning people — we'd much rather everyone have a good time. But we will always prioritize the safety and comfort of the community as a whole.
