How Glitch works with retro gaming platforms.
Glitch is a general-purpose software platform designed to run emulator cores and stream gameplay from a self-hosted server to client devices via WebRTC. Glitch is a personal game streaming server — your games live on your hardware and stream to any device. The Glitch client receives a video stream and sends controller input; it does not execute emulator code locally.
Glitch does not contain, distribute, or provide access to copyrighted game content. Glitch does not distribute ROMs, disc images, BIOS files, or any copyrighted game software. Glitch does not link to, index, or facilitate the downloading of copyrighted material from any source.
Users are solely responsible for supplying their own legally obtained game files. Glitch provides the streaming infrastructure — the content comes entirely from the user's own hardware and personal collection. When you use Glitch, you load game files from your own storage onto your own server, and Glitch streams the output to your own devices.
Glitch uses open-source emulator cores from the libretro ecosystem. These cores are developed and maintained by the open-source community and are distributed under their own licenses (primarily GPL). Glitch does not modify these cores and respects all applicable open-source license terms.
Glitch supports emulator cores capable of running software originally designed for systems such as:
